And Yet

We're 10 days into a new year,
10 days away from a new president,
And in the middle of a raging pandemic.

Our candidate won,
Yet people refuse to accept it.

The miracle vaccine came,
Yet people refuse to take it.

We have never been more connected,
Yet people have never been so divided.

Life feels bleak and threatening,
America: frustrating and impossible,
Our future: supremely uncertain.

Here I am with a hot cup of coffee,
A heavy sigh,
And yet,
A sliver of hope.
