    Have you read anything by Neil Gaiman? I've only read The Graveyard Book. It's a children's novel (that won the 2009 Newbery Award) but its beautiful. It's about a baby who escapes to a nearby graveyard while his family is being murdered. He is ultimately raised by all of the ghosts buried in the graveyard. It sounds odd, but it is such an interesting way to look at life and death. You should check it out. Also, see the movie Stardust which is based upon one of his books.
