Feels like rain

Today it feels like rain... probably because it's raining. Nothing makes me want to stay in bed all day and cuddle like this song. Unfortunately, I can't do either of these two things today, but I can plug my headphones in and stare longingly out the library window imagining a morning of rainy day cuddling. I heard John Haitt's version live, and it was love at first listen. I saw Buddy Guy live too, but he didn't play this song. I like his version though. And girls can play guitar too. My new favorite. And hey, I've seen John Mayer live, too! (Am I bragging??)

I don't know about a book of love.. but I do love books. And this song. The book of love is long and boring No one can lift the damn thing It's full of charts and facts and figures and instructions for dancing But I I love it when you read to me And you You can read me anything The book of love has music in it In fact that's where music comes from Some of it is just transcendental Some of it is just really dumb But I I love it when you sing to me And you You can sing me anything The book of love is long and boring And written very long ago It's full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes And things we're all too young to know ...

OK how awful is this?? It's an online dating website that targets married people searching for extramarital affairs. The tagline is: "Life is short. Have an affair." And it's real. I don't know what is more sad.. that there are 5,290,000 members or this commercial: That's it, I'm never getting married. I mean it. Don't bother asking.
BIRD's songs

One of these days I need to write a post fully explaining my infatuation with "bird" as a word, as an image, as a motto. I have too much to do today, however, so here are some songs by artists that I love that are thematically related.(Insert something creative about birds singing and songs about birds) "The Littlest Birds" by The Be Good Tanyas. The name "Jenna" means "little bird" so this song always reminds me of my dear friend, Jenna. "Birds" by Kate Nash. Kate is everything that is girly, articulate, British, sophisticated, and lovely. She is my idol. "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley. "Singin': "Don't worry 'bout a thing, 'Cause every little thing gonna be all right." If you say so, Bobby.. "Two Birds" by Regina Spektor. She must have written this song after Bob, when the birds started jumping on the bed. "Songbird" by Eva Cassidy. I think this is the most heavenly song...
Christmas 2007

This video was taken Christmas Eve 2007; it was our last Christmas as a family of four. Our house was trashed with wrapping paper, all our relatives had gone home, and my dad assumed his position at the piano. He played Christmas carols at first but couldn't resist doing some freestyle. I love that this video focuses on his hands.

An excerpt from Greta Schiller's documentary "Paris Was A Woman" (DVD, 2004) about famous lesbian writer Natalie Barney and her friends Renee Vivien, Romaine Brooks, Gabrielle Sidonie Colette, etc. We watched this film in my Women Writers of the Left Bank class. It's wonderful. I gave a presentation about Natalie Barney in class and re-discovered this clip... I'm currently immersed in expatriate women writers, specifically Gertrude Stein and Janet Flanner as they are the topic of my final paper for the class. Although I'm not too fond of this paper, I have loved learning about the expatriate community. It reminds me of my favorite expatriate, EH, my good friend who is living and studying in Paris this year. Her blog is my insight into Paris today.

My friend Cee-Ann (Sean) sent me a recording of him singing "Irreplaceable" by Beyonce while playing his keyboard. It sounded good. So does this video. I think this is more the result of my loving anything that involves Beyonce and less the result of successful covers. Introducing Kina Grannis. She's adorable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7036E-Ngww8
